Technical Nonwovens

Technical Nonwovens

Technical textiles are mainly manufactured for their functionality, e.g. geotextiles or filtration media. The wide range of technical textiles is also used for visible parts like in automotive (headliner, carpet), artificial leather substrate (for bags, shoes, seat covers) or acoustic panels. Technical textiles produced on T-SUPREMA needle-punching lines provide high quality products and the innovative patented driving principle combined with vibration-minimized needlelooms reduces wear and tear to a minimum.

Geotextiles

Geotextiles are used in a wide range of applications for building roads, tunnels, sport fields, canals and dams for example. Depending on the purpose of the geotextile, the nonwovens should have different characteristics.

Functional characteristics of geotextiles are a high tensile strength and tear strength, puncture resistance, water permeability, chemical-, temperature- UV resistance, bio-resistance (application dependent), elastic, porous, dimensional and freeze-thaw stability. It can be used for separation, filtration, drainage or reinforcement.

The weight range starts with 100 gsm and goes up to 3200 gsm. Fibers are mostly PET, PP, R-PET or natural fibers in fineness range from 3,3 to 17 dtex, fiber length between 60 and 120 mm.

Visible and non-visible automotive textiles

Fiber based materials are playing a big role in automotive sector. They are either woven, knitted or nonwoven. The best advantage of fiber-based material in comparison to other materials is the material weight. Needled nonwoven for automotive sector mostly made from PP and PET or blends. With their high strength, puncture resistance, high sound and thermal insulation and their great filter properties they are widely used in automotive sector. They can be used in the trunk and as carpet and flooring or headliners and as filter material.Visible and non-visible automotive textiles

Gas and liquid filtration:

Nonwoven filter media are used for the separation of gases, liquids and solids.

In dry filtration large areas for needled or spunlaced media are industrial fume and hot-air filters (filter hoses and bags), bags for vacuum cleaners, air purifiers and air conditioning (roll filters)

Main functional characteristics of filter media are high tenacity, permeability, uniform porosity, long service life, mechanical-, chemical- and heat resistance.

Filtration media in nonwovens are made with spunlacing, mechanical needling or thermobonding.

The weight depend on the application and is between 20 to 650gsm for air purifying and above 450gsm for hot-air filtration. Fibers used in filtermedia are PET+ bico fibers for high performance fibers (PPS, aramide etc.) for hot-air filtration.

Carpet Backing

The quality of a carpet depends not just on the visible layer. There are different ways of carpet backing to improve the isolation, underfood comfort and the acoustic level. There are two types of backing, the primary backing which can be made with woven or nonwoven material. Excellent adhesion, no bowing, thermal and dimensional stability are advantages of the nonwoven material which is produced with PP or PET fibers and blends.

The secondary backing, a needled felt backing offers great comfort and better sound absorption.

Acoustic panels

Acoustic panels are used to minimize noise in open-plan offices, public buildings and in private households, wherever you want to avoid annoying background noise and create a nice tranquil atmosphere. Important for the panels is a very good blend of fibers, which is guaranteed by our T-BLEND system. With our NC carding, a homogeneous web is formed. Polyester fibers (PET), also from recycled materials, are often used. To produce high weights and strength in all directions, a Crosslapper is used and a Needle-Punching machine for compaction. Special heat and pressing processes are used to form the nonwoven fabric into a strong and noise-absorbing part. These panels can be digitally printed, so there are nearly no limits to the design.

Nonwoven shoe insole

The needle punched insole is an important part in shoe production. It can be produced with different fibers like PET, PP, Cotton or wool. The fiber blends of these fibers in the needle punched nonwoven determine the hygroscopic behavior, means how much moisture can be absorbed. Depending on the weight the thermal insulation and permeability varies. The abrasion resistance depends on grade of needling.

Artificial leather substrate:

Needled nonwovens used to produce artificial leather require a very uniform nonwoven thickness as well as an even surface to ensure an even coating. In addition, high strength in all directions is necessary. Artificial leather materials made of polyester fibers are used for shoes, belts, bags, suitcases, seat covers and automotive parts, for example. Weights have a wide range between 70 and 1200 gsm.
